Ever Seen

Miraculously, you exist within me.

And my body has shifted and grown and blossomed to make a home for you. Wherever I go, you go.

Whatever I eat (when you let me), you eat.

And happily you sleep in my lower deck,

rocked gently by eat step I take,

advancing quietly and peacefully.

I wish I remember my womb experience;

I envy you, baby.

To be warm and held and in a dark, safe space.

Nothing compares.

I hope my body is feeding the placenta with lots of yummy nutrients and tasty treats, but if not,

I know you will gently rip it from my body in other ways.

So I commit to being strong for us both.

To exercise and pray and eat well so we both survive these 9 months and beyond, God willing.

So that when you emerge from your cocoon,

you’d be the happiest, strongest little butterfly the world has ever seen.
