I'm shocked and grateful

at how much you've grown, little baby.

You were the smallest seed in my heart,

a corner of light that helped me see

when things got dark.

A bit of hope that I couldn't wait to see realized.

And here you are.

Fully grown,

despite attempts at your conception,

and despite my own failures as a mother.

You are a joy, so bright and full of life.

And while it's been tempting to let you go,

to see you flourish out in the world,

the Lord has kept you close.

I think it's because you have so much to teach me

and so much more to grow,

and it's my job to help you

get to where you need to go.

Thank you, baby,

for making me a mother,

for showing me the value of intentionality.

Thank you

for stretching me in ways I wasn't ready for.
